Tips For Head-Ache Free Heathrow Airport Parking

Tuesday, June 19th, 2018

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

These days, travellers flying from Heathrow Airport, who also need car parking, face a daunting task. What used to be a pretty straight forward decision e.g. Park & Ride bus transfer service or Meet & Greet outside the airport, has now become very complicated. Since Purple Parking got into financial difficulty in 2017, which resulted in the loss of thousands of their spaces being now used for building development, there is often a shortage of affordable park & ride parking services. The on-airport park & ride bus option can be costly and often sell out. There is often slim pickings for park & ride off-airport during a peak.

Travellers can consider meet & greet / valet Heathrow airport parking, where you are met outside the Terminal and the parking operator take your car away to be parked. If you are okay with the concept of someone else driving your car on your behalf, this really can be a fantastic solution due to the convenience (especially in the middle of winter so you don’t have to hang about in the cold). However, this part of the market is now simply flooded with parking companies. The issue is that many of these operators unfortunately ‘cut corners’ behind the scenes and there are often reports of customers returning to huge delays, car damage and even car loss temporarily in some extreme cases. This is the last thing any customers want after a flight back to the frantic and colossal Heathrow.

If you decide to opt for meet & greet but want to avoid a head ache, here are a few handy hints to fast-track the decision making process;

  1. Book in advance– especially if travelling in a peak. The best car parks often fill up quickly. Ideally four weeks in advance should give you the best choice. If you turn up on the day and plead for them to fit you in- the parking company can name their price!
  2. Park Mark award which confirms the car park in question is up to scratch & secure- make sure whoever you book with has the Park Mark award.
  3. Cheapest price? Handle with care– many operators selling at the cheapest price have cut corners in order to offer that price. You don’t want to return to Heathrow to learn your car has been parked on the roadside outside a residential estate being vandalized while you were away (or parked in a muddy field). You also probably don’t want a reckless, immature driver behind the wheel of your car.
  4. Independent customer reviews online– don’t bother with the reviews published on the operator’s website because often they will delete any negative reviews. Go to independent review sites such as Trip Advisor or The Review Centre and do your research properly before you hand over the car keys to your £20,000 pride and joy.
  5. Book direct with the parking operator. There are multiple ‘parking comparison’ websites selling on behalf of multiple parking providers. Normally you get the best price cutting out the parking comparison website (with their commission) by booking direct with the provider themselves. It cuts out potential confusion by having a middleman. These comparison sites sometimes ‘over sell’ and may have to cancel your booking at the last minute, which is the last thing you want. If you have a complaint after using a parking operator, normally the comparison website would tell you to liaise direct with the parking provider- so what’s the point of using them? It’s good to check however that the website is secure and you pay by credit card for extra protection. Certain companies even offer loyalty schemes for customers who book direct so you can get a free car wash for your next trip if you are savvy!
  1. Word of mouth recommendations – ask your family and friends who they would recommend.

Indeed, it can be a bit of a minefield when booking your Heathrow airport parking these days, but if you follow the above list you shouldn’t go too far wrong.

Purple Parking In Administration, Major Ramifications Likely

Thursday, November 30th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

It was indeed a bad Halloween for Purple Parking (the largest off-airport parking provider at Heathrow), who went into Administration at the end of October this year. This caused an irreversible loss of thousands of parking spaces at Heathrow alone.

The collapse caused immediate delays for many Purple Parking customers returning to the UK, trying to get their cars back. However, the long term consequences are likely to be far reaching.

Elements of Purple Parking have since been taken over by Holiday Extras, such as the website, the customer database and the out-sourcing of the Purple Parking Park & Ride service. However, already, customers can no longer buy ‘Purple Parking Meet & Greet’ for Heathrow for example.

The main effect all of this will have on travelers flying from Heathrow will be availability of parking spaces during PEAK travel periods such as Christmas. Car-parks would already sell out during peaks before Purple Parking went bust. Therefore, the situation will now be even worse and travelers are urged to book their airport parking well in advance to help ensure they get the type of parking service they want for the best rate. Spaces will be at a premium during peaks.

The on-airport parking options and the reliable, well established off-airport parking companies will no doubt sell out fast on the lead up to a peak. This is bound to leave thousands of travelers who have left their parking to the last minute with unsavory parking options to choose from.

Travelers are urged to avoid the rogue parking companies who do not have positive independent online reviews and without Park Mark who try to ‘cash in’ on desperate people. Ignore online customer reviews unless they are on an independent website such as ‘Trust Pilot’ or ‘The Review Centre’. Rogue operators have been known to park customer vehicles on road-sides, abuse customer cars and often cause long delays for the customer upon return to the UK. Unfortunately these rogues often hide behind ‘brands’ on parking comparison websites and customers really have no idea who they are handing over their valuable cars to, or where they will be parked.

Customers not wanting to take a chance on an unknown parking brand may need to look at non-parking options such as taxi, coach or rail as alternatives. Of course some may be lucky enough to get a lift to the airport from a family member or friend.

Travel Trends: The Rise Of The Shorter Holiday Abroad

Thursday, September 7th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow? It seems that there is a trend for Brits who are now taking shorter holidays abroad.

Britons have ditched the traditional two-week holiday in favour of shorter breaks as no-frills airlines have taken off over the last 20 years, according to official figures that also confirm the demise of the booze cruise. A review of travel trends since the mid-1990s by the Office for National Statistics highlighted a dramatic rise in the number of holidays taken by UK residents. In 2016, they went on more than 45m foreign holidays, up from 27m in 1996. That was a 68% increase, while the UK population rose by 12% in the same period.

The ONS also found that seven- and 10-day holidays had become more popular than 14-day breaks. Read full article here: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/aug/07/britons-holidays-short-breaks-ons-booze-cruises

Best Travel APPs (Holidays)

Monday, July 17th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?  There are thousands of APPs out there but which of them could help you most when you are abroad?

Uber – I am sure you will have heard of this APP for getting a taxi but apparently it comes into its own when you are abroad. It certainly worked for me in Florida last April when we were on holiday. We got very settled one Saturday evening in an Irish bar (cliché I know) and decided to stay out a bit late for a few cheeky drinks at Disney Springs. We needed a cab and my brother suggested Uber. I was sceptical but we decided to try the APP. Within record speed time we were told the cab was available (one from just $12), not far away which subsequently drove us safely home (a 15 minute journey). I thought it was fantastic value and excellent service.

Packpoint – Making a checklist of everything you need to pack can be useful, but what if one’s already made for you? PackPoint looks at the weather forecast for the dates and location of your trip. It will also ask you to select activities you may participate in during your trip, like a meeting for business, a swim at a pool, or a fancy dinner. It will then offer up a list of items you should pack based on these activities, along with general items you’d need on any trip. You can remove items you don’t think are necessary. You can share lists with others, in case your friends need some help, too.

The Kayak app is a bit of an all-rounder when it comes to holiday planning. You’ll be able to use it to find and book hotels, flights and cars, and also track flights and manage your trip agenda.

Apps from developer Triposo can help you plan your visit to pretty much any country in the world. You can’t use this app to book hotels or flights, but you can use it to help you find out what’s nearby to your chosen destination, so you can plan the activities you’ll get up to while you’re there. For example, if you’re planning to travel to Italy, you can download Triposo’s Italy Travel Guide (it’s free) to find out what there is to do in the city you’re going to, such as Rome, Florence or Venice. You’ll find maps with highlighted attractions, restaurants, bars, supermarkets and photo opportunities, as well as information such as directions, reviews and contact details for restaurants, museums and more. These guides, handily, can also be viewed offline.

CityMapper is an excellent app for navigating public transport and walking directions. As long as you’re set up with a good roaming plan so you don’t get charged the earth, it’ll get you from A to B with excellent step by step instructions based on your current location. It’s a potential lifesaver in a foreign city. Read more: https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/best-travel-apps/

Brexit Effect On Travel & Future Of APD

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport valet parking at Heathrow?

Latest At LHR

Latest At LHR

This article we found by TTG has some interesting points concerning the impact of an exit from the EU, thoughts on the expansion on Heathrow and also the future of APD. The ex-shadow chancellor of the ex-chequer has said he believes it would take between five and 10 years to negotiate new deals with countries – including airline agreements – if the UK votes to leave the EU. Ed Balls, who is on the Remain side, said he believed a number of countries may be reluctant to agree deals with UK-based airlines because they may want to favour their own carriers instead.

“It would take years not months to negotiate good deals. We would have to renegotiate trade agreements with everyone – I think it will take five to 10 years to do it. “The question is would we really be able to get the same deal as we could get in the European single market?” he added.

Meanwhile Balls said it was unlikely that Air Passenger Duty would be reduced or scrapped any time soon.

In terms of absence from school for family holidays, as a former secretary of state for children, schools and families, he admitted he was sympathetic to parents wanting to save money. However Balls said he was still against allowing children to miss school in order to go on holiday. More Low Cost Airline Choices At Heathrow?

Tuesday, June 7th, 2016

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport valet parking at Heathrow? Low-cost airline Flybe has recently been looking at operating out of Heathrow, according to unconfirmed press reports.

heathrow parking with VIP

A Sunday paper report recently said the carrier is examining the possibility of taking up UK domestic slots out of London’s main airport – freed up after the closure of bmi in 2011

Flybe, which is Europe’s largest regional carrier, operates from four other London airports—Gatwick, Stansted, City and Southend—but not from the capital’s main international hub

Virgin Atlantic took up most of the slots in 2013 for its Little Red feeder service from Manchester, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, although that service closed after failing to attract sufficient passengers.

Making Parking Better At Heathrow

Thursday, March 24th, 2016

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport valet parking at Heathrow? Changes are coming into effect by the authorities at Heathrow Airport to help reduce the number of disreputable, poor quality parking companies charging cheap prices but who park customers’ cars in insecure locations such as residential streets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7IhtxBVUFY

Unfortunately although customer awareness of this kind of practice has been heightened thanks to TV coverage on consumer TV programmes and news coverage as per the above link, there are still operators setting up at UK’s major airports hoping to cash-in by doing the job on the cheap.

VIP Heathrow: For Great value, Quality Heathrow airport valet parking

Unnervingly this often means such operators are able to offer their cheap ‘attractive’ prices by parking cars along county lanes or on the side of residential streets. Naturally this means they are not delivering the security promised online when the customer is making their decision as to which off-airport provider to book with. The reality is that too many customers are being misled by professional looking websites making make promises which are often unfortunately not kept.

As a long established, quality provider, VIP Heathrow Ltd is supporting the changes. HAL, BPA, APCOA and The Metropolitan Police are working together with the reputable, established, independent meet & greet providers to achieve an Approved Operator Scheme which may prove similar to the scheme in place at Gatwick Airport.

Louise McLintock-Peasley, Marketing Director at VIP Heathrow Ltd commented; “We very much welcome any changes which will help protect the customer. Meet & Greet / Valet Parking offers fantastic convenience but security should never be compromised by the operators storing the vehicles off-airport on the customers’ behalf. It has always been our goal to combine great value for money with a high quality service where cars are stored off-airport securely and quality drivers are employed. Some operators seem to not think like that though unfortunately because they too often ‘over-sell’ spaces and that’s when things go wrong. We hate to see on review websites where travellers have used a competitor of ours and then experienced a ‘no-show’ on date of departure or a lengthy wait for their car upon return- both of which are very stressful situations. We recommend that customers should always do their research before using an off-airport meet & greet parking company for the first time, ensuring they have The Park Mark award and checking out independent consumer review websites.”
