Purple Parking In Administration, Major Ramifications Likely

Thursday, November 30th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

It was indeed a bad Halloween for Purple Parking (the largest off-airport parking provider at Heathrow), who went into Administration at the end of October this year. This caused an irreversible loss of thousands of parking spaces at Heathrow alone.

The collapse caused immediate delays for many Purple Parking customers returning to the UK, trying to get their cars back. However, the long term consequences are likely to be far reaching.

Elements of Purple Parking have since been taken over by Holiday Extras, such as the website, the customer database and the out-sourcing of the Purple Parking Park & Ride service. However, already, customers can no longer buy ‘Purple Parking Meet & Greet’ for Heathrow for example.

The main effect all of this will have on travelers flying from Heathrow will be availability of parking spaces during PEAK travel periods such as Christmas. Car-parks would already sell out during peaks before Purple Parking went bust. Therefore, the situation will now be even worse and travelers are urged to book their airport parking well in advance to help ensure they get the type of parking service they want for the best rate. Spaces will be at a premium during peaks.

The on-airport parking options and the reliable, well established off-airport parking companies will no doubt sell out fast on the lead up to a peak. This is bound to leave thousands of travelers who have left their parking to the last minute with unsavory parking options to choose from.

Travelers are urged to avoid the rogue parking companies who do not have positive independent online reviews and without Park Mark who try to ‘cash in’ on desperate people. Ignore online customer reviews unless they are on an independent website such as ‘Trust Pilot’ or ‘The Review Centre’. Rogue operators have been known to park customer vehicles on road-sides, abuse customer cars and often cause long delays for the customer upon return to the UK. Unfortunately these rogues often hide behind ‘brands’ on parking comparison websites and customers really have no idea who they are handing over their valuable cars to, or where they will be parked.

Customers not wanting to take a chance on an unknown parking brand may need to look at non-parking options such as taxi, coach or rail as alternatives. Of course some may be lucky enough to get a lift to the airport from a family member or friend.

Monarch & Ryanair Cancellations- Know Your Rights

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

Not only have Ryanair recently cancelled flights on a major scale due to ‘staffing issues’, but now the airline Monarch have gone into Administration only this week. The airline, founded in 1967, has ceased trading, almost a year after the carrier was given a £165million bailout, when it appeared to be teetering on the brink, the airline and holiday operator has folded.

Monarch, the UK’s fifth largest airline, nearly saw its operator licence expire on Saturday before it was given a 24-hour extension – which was not renewed.

The impact of terror attacks in key holiday markets, including Egypt and Turkey, the fall in the value of the pound following last year’s vote for Brexit, and stiff competition in the low-cost carrier market are understood to be behind the company’s downfall.

So what can you do if you’ve been affected?

Of course there are Monarch passengers already abroad who need to make alternative arrangements and also over 300,000 passengers with future Monarch bookings.  For those already abroad, passengers will use aircraft sourced by the CAA from other airlines, including Qatar Airways, easyJet and Air Transat. Rescue flights have already begun, with information from FlightRadar showing a Qatar Airways A320 bringing passengers home from Ibiza. More than 30 aircraft will be chartered by the CAA.

As Monarch also sold package holidays, there will be customers missing out on more than just flights. Fortunately, those who have booked package holidays through the operator should be protected by the Government’s Atol scheme.

However, those booked to fly with Monarch via another tour operator, such as Thomson or Thomas Cook, will likely be catered for by the operator who will source an alternative aircraft or flight. Contact your operator to check the latest information. Read more:

Making Parking Better At Heathrow

Thursday, March 24th, 2016

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport valet parking at Heathrow? Changes are coming into effect by the authorities at Heathrow Airport to help reduce the number of disreputable, poor quality parking companies charging cheap prices but who park customers’ cars in insecure locations such as residential streets. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7IhtxBVUFY

Unfortunately although customer awareness of this kind of practice has been heightened thanks to TV coverage on consumer TV programmes and news coverage as per the above link, there are still operators setting up at UK’s major airports hoping to cash-in by doing the job on the cheap.

VIP Heathrow: For Great value, Quality Heathrow airport valet parking

Unnervingly this often means such operators are able to offer their cheap ‘attractive’ prices by parking cars along county lanes or on the side of residential streets. Naturally this means they are not delivering the security promised online when the customer is making their decision as to which off-airport provider to book with. The reality is that too many customers are being misled by professional looking websites making make promises which are often unfortunately not kept.

As a long established, quality provider, VIP Heathrow Ltd is supporting the changes. HAL, BPA, APCOA and The Metropolitan Police are working together with the reputable, established, independent meet & greet providers to achieve an Approved Operator Scheme which may prove similar to the scheme in place at Gatwick Airport.

Louise McLintock-Peasley, Marketing Director at VIP Heathrow Ltd commented; “We very much welcome any changes which will help protect the customer. Meet & Greet / Valet Parking offers fantastic convenience but security should never be compromised by the operators storing the vehicles off-airport on the customers’ behalf. It has always been our goal to combine great value for money with a high quality service where cars are stored off-airport securely and quality drivers are employed. Some operators seem to not think like that though unfortunately because they too often ‘over-sell’ spaces and that’s when things go wrong. We hate to see on review websites where travellers have used a competitor of ours and then experienced a ‘no-show’ on date of departure or a lengthy wait for their car upon return- both of which are very stressful situations. We recommend that customers should always do their research before using an off-airport meet & greet parking company for the first time, ensuring they have The Park Mark award and checking out independent consumer review websites.”

New Heathrow Rail Proposal

Tuesday, March 15th, 2016

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport valet parking at Heathrow? Plans to build a £500m rail tunnel from Slough to Heathrow airport have been put on public display.

If it is approved, the tunnel will take five years to build and is predicted to give an £800m economic boost to the local area. Currently, passengers from the Thames Valley and Wales have to travel to London Paddington and get a connecting train to the airport.

Hopefully the proposal if approved can help improve journey times and help ease some of the congestion which frequently occurs around Heathrow’s Airport’s road infrastructure.

Impact Of ‘Brexit’ On Travel

Wednesday, March 9th, 2016

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport valet parking at Heathrow? What would be the effect of Brexit on Travel? Could Britain leaving the EU impact your future holiday prices? Peter Long has described it as a threat to security. Carolyn McCall has warned it will lead to a significant rise in the cost of air fares. And Richard Branson insists it “would be very, very damaging for Great Britain”. There are, however, other reasons that experts believe a Brexit could lead to a hike in holiday prices. This is largely due to the belief that sterling would fall dramatically – as evidenced by the pound falling to a seven-year low last week, in the wake of David Cameron announcing the date for the referendum and Boris Johnson stating his support for the “leave” campaign.

VIP heathrow parking : bags at heathrow airport

For some the future value of British currency is a “major concern”. Some believe that the pound would plummet by as much as 15-20% if the country votes to leave the EU, making foreign travel more expensive for British citizens.

Heathrow pushes case for expansion after record January

Thursday, February 11th, 2016

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality valet parking at Heathrow? Heathrow renewed its case for expansion as the airport reported a record 5.5 million passengers handled in January.

The 1% increase over January 2015 came as a result of larger, fuller aircraft with strong growth from emerging markets.

Mexico traffic was up by 21 year-on-year, China by 16%, Turkey by 5.3% and the Middle East by 4% as airlines benefited from the use of new aircraft such as Airbus A380 superjumbos.

The airport highlighted the growth potential of expansion – claiming 40 long-haul routes could be added – due to routes by Vietnam Airlines to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City being switched from Gatwick and new British Airways flights to Kuala Lumpur.

The debate over LHR expansion continues…….

Heathrow Bursting And Gatwick Is Least Timely Major UK Airport

Thursday, January 28th, 2016

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality meet & greet parking at Heathrow? The capacity squeeze at Britain’s overcrowded airports and need for a new runway in the South East has been highlighted by data revealing punctuality in the airline industry.
At Heathrow – the UK’s busiest airport and the most likely site of a new runway – more than a quarter of all take-offs and and landings in 2015 took place more than 15 minutes outside their scheduled slot.
Gatwick, which is still campaigning to add another landing strip despite failing to win the backing of the Airports Commission, is the worst performer among Britain’s major airports, with only 65pc of flights on time.

Happy 2016! A Major Milestone For Heathrow

Monday, January 11th, 2016

Heathrow was originally built for military purposes during the Second World War and was handed over by the Air Ministry to the Minister of Civil Aviation on January 1st, 1946.
May 31st 2016 is the official date of Heathrow’s birthday – marking 70 years since the then newly named London Airport officially opened for civilian aviation.

heathrow parking with VIP
Over the course of 2016, Heathrow will be celebrating a number of key moments with colleagues, passengers and the local community to mark this significant anniversary.
The first commercial flight to depart that day was a British South American Airlines Lancastrian ‘Star Light’ which flew to Buenos Aires.
Since its opening, the UK’s only hub airport has grown significantly to handle over 73 million passengers annually and is now one of the best major airports in the world.
In 1946 passenger terminals were made from ex military marquees that formed a ‘tented village’ along the Bath Road.
Each was equipped with floral-patterned armchairs, settees and small tables containing vases of fresh flowers.
To reach aircraft parked on the apron, passengers walked over wooden duckboards to protect their footwear from the muddy airfield.
By the close of Heathrow’s first operational year in 1946, 63,000 passengers had travelled through London’s new airport.
By 1951 this had risen to 796,000 and British architect Frederick Gibberd was appointed to design permanent buildings for the airport.
Long standing employee and local resident Keith Haywood, 87, has worked at the airport for over 70 years and pushed one of the first flights back aged 17.
He said: “I feel very privileged to have seen Heathrow develop and grow from its first day in 1946.”
Since 2003, Heathrow has invested £12 billion in transforming Heathrow.
As a result, over 60 per cent of Heathrow passengers now experience modern, world class facilities in Terminal 5 and Terminal 2.
In June 2015, Terminal 1 closed to make way for newer and improved facilities.
Eventually an extension of the new Terminal 2 will take its place.
If the Government supports a third runway at Heathrow in the summer then Terminal 2 will be extended and a new terminal will be built adjacent to Terminal 5, providing enough capacity to connect Britain to the world for the 21st century.
