Tips For Head-Ache Free Heathrow Airport Parking

Tuesday, June 19th, 2018

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

These days, travellers flying from Heathrow Airport, who also need car parking, face a daunting task. What used to be a pretty straight forward decision e.g. Park & Ride bus transfer service or Meet & Greet outside the airport, has now become very complicated. Since Purple Parking got into financial difficulty in 2017, which resulted in the loss of thousands of their spaces being now used for building development, there is often a shortage of affordable park & ride parking services. The on-airport park & ride bus option can be costly and often sell out. There is often slim pickings for park & ride off-airport during a peak.

Travellers can consider meet & greet / valet Heathrow airport parking, where you are met outside the Terminal and the parking operator take your car away to be parked. If you are okay with the concept of someone else driving your car on your behalf, this really can be a fantastic solution due to the convenience (especially in the middle of winter so you don’t have to hang about in the cold). However, this part of the market is now simply flooded with parking companies. The issue is that many of these operators unfortunately ‘cut corners’ behind the scenes and there are often reports of customers returning to huge delays, car damage and even car loss temporarily in some extreme cases. This is the last thing any customers want after a flight back to the frantic and colossal Heathrow.

If you decide to opt for meet & greet but want to avoid a head ache, here are a few handy hints to fast-track the decision making process;

  1. Book in advance– especially if travelling in a peak. The best car parks often fill up quickly. Ideally four weeks in advance should give you the best choice. If you turn up on the day and plead for them to fit you in- the parking company can name their price!
  2. Park Mark award which confirms the car park in question is up to scratch & secure- make sure whoever you book with has the Park Mark award.
  3. Cheapest price? Handle with care– many operators selling at the cheapest price have cut corners in order to offer that price. You don’t want to return to Heathrow to learn your car has been parked on the roadside outside a residential estate being vandalized while you were away (or parked in a muddy field). You also probably don’t want a reckless, immature driver behind the wheel of your car.
  4. Independent customer reviews online– don’t bother with the reviews published on the operator’s website because often they will delete any negative reviews. Go to independent review sites such as Trip Advisor or The Review Centre and do your research properly before you hand over the car keys to your £20,000 pride and joy.
  5. Book direct with the parking operator. There are multiple ‘parking comparison’ websites selling on behalf of multiple parking providers. Normally you get the best price cutting out the parking comparison website (with their commission) by booking direct with the provider themselves. It cuts out potential confusion by having a middleman. These comparison sites sometimes ‘over sell’ and may have to cancel your booking at the last minute, which is the last thing you want. If you have a complaint after using a parking operator, normally the comparison website would tell you to liaise direct with the parking provider- so what’s the point of using them? It’s good to check however that the website is secure and you pay by credit card for extra protection. Certain companies even offer loyalty schemes for customers who book direct so you can get a free car wash for your next trip if you are savvy!
  1. Word of mouth recommendations – ask your family and friends who they would recommend.

Indeed, it can be a bit of a minefield when booking your Heathrow airport parking these days, but if you follow the above list you shouldn’t go too far wrong.

Be Protected: EHIC Card & Travel Insurance

Monday, February 19th, 2018

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?  Travelling abroad is great when it all goes smoothly. Most of us travelling abroad will have a happy and healthy time when we are away.  However, it’s always good to take advantage of freebies that give you extra peace of mind e.g. should anything go wrong with your health when you are away.

In additional to having Travel Insurance, The EUROPEAN Health Insurance Card – otherwise known as the EHIC – is free and entitles you to free or discounted medical care whilst travelling in all 28 European Union (EU) countries, plus some others. It essentially means you can be treated the same way as a citizen of the country you are visiting. Whilst some free treatment is available, if in some instances you are required to pay then you are only required to pay the same local rates.

But, contrary to some Briton’s beliefs, the EHIC is not a magic wand for free medical treatment and should never be used as a substitute for travel insurance. Personally, knowing the hassle that goes with submitting a travel insurance claim combined with the fact you are out of pocket first and then have to wait (a long time to be refunded if I’m lucky), this card sounds good to have as well. It might avoid some hassle if anything goes wrong with my health when I am on my hols. I accept that if something unrelated to my health goes wrong such as lost baggage, then I will have to fall back on my travel insurance to try to seek some recompense.

Having an EHIC may mean that you don’t have to claim on your travel insurance and pay an excess for minor injuries. Look at it as complementing your own travel insurance rather than replacing it.

Monarch & Ryanair Cancellations- Know Your Rights

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

Not only have Ryanair recently cancelled flights on a major scale due to ‘staffing issues’, but now the airline Monarch have gone into Administration only this week. The airline, founded in 1967, has ceased trading, almost a year after the carrier was given a £165million bailout, when it appeared to be teetering on the brink, the airline and holiday operator has folded.

Monarch, the UK’s fifth largest airline, nearly saw its operator licence expire on Saturday before it was given a 24-hour extension – which was not renewed.

The impact of terror attacks in key holiday markets, including Egypt and Turkey, the fall in the value of the pound following last year’s vote for Brexit, and stiff competition in the low-cost carrier market are understood to be behind the company’s downfall.

So what can you do if you’ve been affected?

Of course there are Monarch passengers already abroad who need to make alternative arrangements and also over 300,000 passengers with future Monarch bookings.  For those already abroad, passengers will use aircraft sourced by the CAA from other airlines, including Qatar Airways, easyJet and Air Transat. Rescue flights have already begun, with information from FlightRadar showing a Qatar Airways A320 bringing passengers home from Ibiza. More than 30 aircraft will be chartered by the CAA.

As Monarch also sold package holidays, there will be customers missing out on more than just flights. Fortunately, those who have booked package holidays through the operator should be protected by the Government’s Atol scheme.

However, those booked to fly with Monarch via another tour operator, such as Thomson or Thomas Cook, will likely be catered for by the operator who will source an alternative aircraft or flight. Contact your operator to check the latest information. Read more:

Best Travel APPs (Holidays)

Monday, July 17th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?  There are thousands of APPs out there but which of them could help you most when you are abroad?

Uber – I am sure you will have heard of this APP for getting a taxi but apparently it comes into its own when you are abroad. It certainly worked for me in Florida last April when we were on holiday. We got very settled one Saturday evening in an Irish bar (cliché I know) and decided to stay out a bit late for a few cheeky drinks at Disney Springs. We needed a cab and my brother suggested Uber. I was sceptical but we decided to try the APP. Within record speed time we were told the cab was available (one from just $12), not far away which subsequently drove us safely home (a 15 minute journey). I thought it was fantastic value and excellent service.

Packpoint – Making a checklist of everything you need to pack can be useful, but what if one’s already made for you? PackPoint looks at the weather forecast for the dates and location of your trip. It will also ask you to select activities you may participate in during your trip, like a meeting for business, a swim at a pool, or a fancy dinner. It will then offer up a list of items you should pack based on these activities, along with general items you’d need on any trip. You can remove items you don’t think are necessary. You can share lists with others, in case your friends need some help, too.

The Kayak app is a bit of an all-rounder when it comes to holiday planning. You’ll be able to use it to find and book hotels, flights and cars, and also track flights and manage your trip agenda.

Apps from developer Triposo can help you plan your visit to pretty much any country in the world. You can’t use this app to book hotels or flights, but you can use it to help you find out what’s nearby to your chosen destination, so you can plan the activities you’ll get up to while you’re there. For example, if you’re planning to travel to Italy, you can download Triposo’s Italy Travel Guide (it’s free) to find out what there is to do in the city you’re going to, such as Rome, Florence or Venice. You’ll find maps with highlighted attractions, restaurants, bars, supermarkets and photo opportunities, as well as information such as directions, reviews and contact details for restaurants, museums and more. These guides, handily, can also be viewed offline.

CityMapper is an excellent app for navigating public transport and walking directions. As long as you’re set up with a good roaming plan so you don’t get charged the earth, it’ll get you from A to B with excellent step by step instructions based on your current location. It’s a potential lifesaver in a foreign city. Read more: https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/best-travel-apps/

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport valet parking at Heathrow? VIP Heathrow Travel Tips: Book Your 2016 Holiday Early

Wednesday, September 9th, 2015

Many of us will have enjoyed a 2015 summer holiday, escaping from a rather disappointingly wet British summer. When should you book your 2016 holiday? If you’re looking for the best availability, lowest price and guaranteed space on the flight for your chosen dates, the answer is now! Whether you should book your holiday early or wait for a last-minute deal is an age-old question and most travel experts will tell you that the biggest advantages come with booking your getaway well in advance. Many travel companies and airlines offer early booking deals as an incentive. Another reason to book a European holiday now is so that you can make the most of the excellent pound-euro exchange rate by buying your holiday cash now.

VIP Parking Heathrow Saving You Money
If you’re a parent thinking of a family break abroad in 2016, you won’t want to wait until next year to book. The school holidays are the biggest annual driver of prices and availability and booking early for a holiday during this period can save you serious amounts of cash. For group holidays, it’s essential to be an early bird to avoid disappointment, especially if you are planning a European escape or UK self catering break in the summer.
If you are planning on travelling for an event or festival, such as New Year’s Eve, the cherry blossom in Japan or Diwali in India, you will need to book as early as possible as these trips sell out fast.
