Tips For Head-Ache Free Heathrow Airport Parking

Tuesday, June 19th, 2018

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

These days, travellers flying from Heathrow Airport, who also need car parking, face a daunting task. What used to be a pretty straight forward decision e.g. Park & Ride bus transfer service or Meet & Greet outside the airport, has now become very complicated. Since Purple Parking got into financial difficulty in 2017, which resulted in the loss of thousands of their spaces being now used for building development, there is often a shortage of affordable park & ride parking services. The on-airport park & ride bus option can be costly and often sell out. There is often slim pickings for park & ride off-airport during a peak.

Travellers can consider meet & greet / valet Heathrow airport parking, where you are met outside the Terminal and the parking operator take your car away to be parked. If you are okay with the concept of someone else driving your car on your behalf, this really can be a fantastic solution due to the convenience (especially in the middle of winter so you don’t have to hang about in the cold). However, this part of the market is now simply flooded with parking companies. The issue is that many of these operators unfortunately ‘cut corners’ behind the scenes and there are often reports of customers returning to huge delays, car damage and even car loss temporarily in some extreme cases. This is the last thing any customers want after a flight back to the frantic and colossal Heathrow.

If you decide to opt for meet & greet but want to avoid a head ache, here are a few handy hints to fast-track the decision making process;

  1. Book in advance– especially if travelling in a peak. The best car parks often fill up quickly. Ideally four weeks in advance should give you the best choice. If you turn up on the day and plead for them to fit you in- the parking company can name their price!
  2. Park Mark award which confirms the car park in question is up to scratch & secure- make sure whoever you book with has the Park Mark award.
  3. Cheapest price? Handle with care– many operators selling at the cheapest price have cut corners in order to offer that price. You don’t want to return to Heathrow to learn your car has been parked on the roadside outside a residential estate being vandalized while you were away (or parked in a muddy field). You also probably don’t want a reckless, immature driver behind the wheel of your car.
  4. Independent customer reviews online– don’t bother with the reviews published on the operator’s website because often they will delete any negative reviews. Go to independent review sites such as Trip Advisor or The Review Centre and do your research properly before you hand over the car keys to your £20,000 pride and joy.
  5. Book direct with the parking operator. There are multiple ‘parking comparison’ websites selling on behalf of multiple parking providers. Normally you get the best price cutting out the parking comparison website (with their commission) by booking direct with the provider themselves. It cuts out potential confusion by having a middleman. These comparison sites sometimes ‘over sell’ and may have to cancel your booking at the last minute, which is the last thing you want. If you have a complaint after using a parking operator, normally the comparison website would tell you to liaise direct with the parking provider- so what’s the point of using them? It’s good to check however that the website is secure and you pay by credit card for extra protection. Certain companies even offer loyalty schemes for customers who book direct so you can get a free car wash for your next trip if you are savvy!
  1. Word of mouth recommendations – ask your family and friends who they would recommend.

Indeed, it can be a bit of a minefield when booking your Heathrow airport parking these days, but if you follow the above list you shouldn’t go too far wrong.

Purple Parking In Administration, Major Ramifications Likely

Thursday, November 30th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

It was indeed a bad Halloween for Purple Parking (the largest off-airport parking provider at Heathrow), who went into Administration at the end of October this year. This caused an irreversible loss of thousands of parking spaces at Heathrow alone.

The collapse caused immediate delays for many Purple Parking customers returning to the UK, trying to get their cars back. However, the long term consequences are likely to be far reaching.

Elements of Purple Parking have since been taken over by Holiday Extras, such as the website, the customer database and the out-sourcing of the Purple Parking Park & Ride service. However, already, customers can no longer buy ‘Purple Parking Meet & Greet’ for Heathrow for example.

The main effect all of this will have on travelers flying from Heathrow will be availability of parking spaces during PEAK travel periods such as Christmas. Car-parks would already sell out during peaks before Purple Parking went bust. Therefore, the situation will now be even worse and travelers are urged to book their airport parking well in advance to help ensure they get the type of parking service they want for the best rate. Spaces will be at a premium during peaks.

The on-airport parking options and the reliable, well established off-airport parking companies will no doubt sell out fast on the lead up to a peak. This is bound to leave thousands of travelers who have left their parking to the last minute with unsavory parking options to choose from.

Travelers are urged to avoid the rogue parking companies who do not have positive independent online reviews and without Park Mark who try to ‘cash in’ on desperate people. Ignore online customer reviews unless they are on an independent website such as ‘Trust Pilot’ or ‘The Review Centre’. Rogue operators have been known to park customer vehicles on road-sides, abuse customer cars and often cause long delays for the customer upon return to the UK. Unfortunately these rogues often hide behind ‘brands’ on parking comparison websites and customers really have no idea who they are handing over their valuable cars to, or where they will be parked.

Customers not wanting to take a chance on an unknown parking brand may need to look at non-parking options such as taxi, coach or rail as alternatives. Of course some may be lucky enough to get a lift to the airport from a family member or friend.

Monarch & Ryanair Cancellations- Know Your Rights

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

What’s the latest in the world of Heathrow airport and travel from the experts in quality airport parking at Heathrow?

Not only have Ryanair recently cancelled flights on a major scale due to ‘staffing issues’, but now the airline Monarch have gone into Administration only this week. The airline, founded in 1967, has ceased trading, almost a year after the carrier was given a £165million bailout, when it appeared to be teetering on the brink, the airline and holiday operator has folded.

Monarch, the UK’s fifth largest airline, nearly saw its operator licence expire on Saturday before it was given a 24-hour extension – which was not renewed.

The impact of terror attacks in key holiday markets, including Egypt and Turkey, the fall in the value of the pound following last year’s vote for Brexit, and stiff competition in the low-cost carrier market are understood to be behind the company’s downfall.

So what can you do if you’ve been affected?

Of course there are Monarch passengers already abroad who need to make alternative arrangements and also over 300,000 passengers with future Monarch bookings.  For those already abroad, passengers will use aircraft sourced by the CAA from other airlines, including Qatar Airways, easyJet and Air Transat. Rescue flights have already begun, with information from FlightRadar showing a Qatar Airways A320 bringing passengers home from Ibiza. More than 30 aircraft will be chartered by the CAA.

As Monarch also sold package holidays, there will be customers missing out on more than just flights. Fortunately, those who have booked package holidays through the operator should be protected by the Government’s Atol scheme.

However, those booked to fly with Monarch via another tour operator, such as Thomson or Thomas Cook, will likely be catered for by the operator who will source an alternative aircraft or flight. Contact your operator to check the latest information. Read more:

Thursday, April 14th, 2016

If you are planning on travelling to a tropical destination, or an area which is prone to mosquitoes, how do you plan of defending yourself from attack? A mosquito bite is an annoyance at the least and at worst they can pass on a serious illness such as malaria. Do you use the old school methods such as lotions and covering up or does advances in technology offer some protection too -via the humble mobile phone which most of us carry these days? We’ve found this fascinating article ; http://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/can-you-repel-mosquitoes-with-an-app-a6981121.html

People have been playing it safe for the last few years with their holiday choices, but research shows that many British holidaymakers were planning to explore new destinations in 2015; over a third (35%) said they would take a holiday to a country they have never been to before.

Long haul holidays are no longer the preserve of the intrepid traveller. Wider availability of new aircraft, such as Boeing’s Dreamliner and the Airbus A380 is also making long haul travel more attractive, as is the abolition of Air Passenger Duty (APD) bands C and D in April 2015, which is expected to save British holidaymakers £200m a year.

VIP Heathrow Travel Tips: Christmas Markets

Tuesday, December 15th, 2015

Still got Xmas pressies to buy? It’s not too late to visit one of the many Xmas markets. Why not squeeze in a mini break and go a little further afield? With our strange mild, changeable weather here in the UK – take a short flight and you could visit one of the many fabulous Xmas markets in Europe- with more fitting chilly weather!

Strasbourg offers Olde Worlde charm, but during Advent, the capital of Alsace is even more magical. Half-timbered houses sport giant red-and-white hearts; stars, angels and snowflakes garland the cobbled streets. No wonder Strasbourg has won the title of “Best Christmas Market in Europe” two years running. But locals have plenty of practice in throwing a Yuletide party – the Christkindelsmärik dates back to 1570 and even the towering fir tree on the Place Kléber is a 400-year-old custom. Check out the 11 different “villages” but do not miss the “bredele”. These special biscuits come in all shapes and flavours, from hazelnut, orange and cinnamon to walnut, coconut and praline. Take them home. Hang them on your tree. Then eat them.

VIP Heathrow Travel Tips: Reduce Airport Stress

Thursday, December 10th, 2015

Travelling from airports can be stressful at the best of times never-mind travelling over peak times such as Xmas / New Year. Here are some ways to help make the airport experience as enjoyable as possible.

Before you leave for the airport check that your flight is departing on schedule, no point being there if not. Airlines recommend you arrive to the airport three hours before an international flight but that can be excessive- unless travelling with children of course.

VIP heathrow parking : bags at heathrow airport

It is becoming common or airports around the world to offer a baggage wrap service. Your check-in bag is placed on a machine which cocoons it in several layers of clingy see-through plastic. It’s cheap, and the purpose is to deter would-be thieves who might pilfer your luggage once it disappears from sight – (sadly locks are no barrier). The wrap also offers an extra layer of protection for your bags. Any tampering would be immediately apparent when you retrieve your bag. Some travellers maintain this is a complete waste of time, but they’re probably ones who have never had anything go missing from their luggage. There are airports in the world where you should definitely have your bag wrapped, and that can apply to your destination airport as well as the one you’re departing from. If you see locals having their bags wrapped it’s a good indication that you have reason to do the same.
Economy class passengers without the right credit card or frequent flyer status that will open the door to a business-class airport lounge have another option in pay-for-use lounges. You can expect showers, buffet-style snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, coffee and tea, free Wi-Fi and quiet and comfortable seating. They vary enormously in quality, amenities and services so it pays to do your homework before you pay for access. Check reviews on Tripadvisor Lounge Buddy,or Sleeping in Airports. Lounge Buddy and Sleeping in Airports also allow you to buy lounge access in advance and this is usually cheaper than if you pay at the lounge door.
And ALWAYS pre-book your airport parking as you will be exploited if you just turn up at the car-park. Be very careful about who you choose for your parking, especially if opting for meet & greet parking where your car is parked for you so you can go straight to check-in. There are scoundrels out there setting up and causing travellers high levels of stress. VIP Heathrow Travel Tips: Avoid A Scare This Halloween!

Wednesday, October 28th, 2015

If you are squeezing in a break during the hectic October 1/2 term period, here are some frightfully good tips:

No fear with VIP Heathrow parking

1. Avoid cabin bag penalty charges (e.g. your carry-on bags are not over the limit). Double-check the allowances with your airline before you leave home.

2. Allow contingency time to allow for hold-ups en-route to the airport and always opt for meet & greet parking to cut out the bus transfer which adds further time to your journey.

3. Pre-book airport parking with a trustworthy meet & greet parking provider. VIP Heathrow Ltd is one of the longest established operators at Heathrow who only use secure car-parks which have been vetted or have the Park Mark award.

4. And of course don’t forget all your travel documents are safe and to hand.

VIP’s great value, friendly meet & greet Heathrow parking service is in demand and we only have a few spaces remaining for October 1/2 term – so book today and don’t be at risk of having a hellish time at Heathrow!
