Make Sure Your Airport Stress Is Kept Minimal!

Thursday, April 16th, 2015

delays

Hopefully most UK travellers abroad enjoyed their Easter break and had a trouble free experience at the airport. It was an especially busy Easter for travel abroad with more than 370,000 passengers flying from Heathrow airport between Good Friday and Easter Monday, and 200,000 through Gatwick. There were unfortunate passengers affected by the French air traffic strikes. Passengers caught in travel chaos triggered by striking air traffic controllers have accused their airlines of neglecting them.
UK and Irish airlines had to axe scores of flights while others were disrupted, with the delays and cancellations affecting not only services to and from France but also flights to other parts of Europe.
Ryanair cancelled 250 flights on the Wednesday, with the airports affected including Birmingham, Luton, Leeds Bradford, Stansted, East Midlands and Dublin.
Among the destinations on Ryanair’s cancelled list are Alicante and Malaga in Spain and Marrakech in Morocco.
Remember, if you have endured a flight delay of over 3 hours, airlines may have to pay you compensation in certain circumstances. Take a look at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/flight-delays
You are only entitled to the compensation if the delay was something within the airline’s control. Staffing problems and under booking all count. Yet political unrest in a country or bad weather make claiming a no-go. Depending on your travel insurance policy, you could be able to claim compensation from your insurer when the delay isn’t the airline’s fault. Check your policy terms and conditions for what situations it’ll cover.

Airport Parking Made Easy:

Heathrow Goes Up In Customer Survey

Thursday, April 9th, 2015

welcome to heathrow

Four of London’s airports rank among the top 100 in the world, with Heathrow in the top 10, according to a passenger survey published this week.
The awards, dished out by air travel rating site Skytrax, name the best international airports each year based on a nine-month customer survey.
While Heathrow touches down in eighth place, up from 10th in last year’s World Airport Awards, London City Airport is at number 32, and Gatwick and Stansted rank 40th and 73rd respectively.
There’s more good news for London when it comes to stopping over mid-journey. Sofitel London Heathrow is rated the fifth best airport hotel in the world, and Heathrow is rated the third best airport in the world for diners.
However, none of Britain’s airports rank among the 10 best places “for customers to relax and unwind during the airport experience”.
Tokyo’s Kansai International Airport is rated as the world’s best for baggage handling, having reportedly never lost a single piece of luggage since its opening 21 years ago.
“The baggage delivery award is based around various criteria, the core emphasis integrating speed and efficiency of baggage delivery, staff support services, baggage hall information and so on,” Peter Miller, director of marketing for Skytrax, told the Telegraph.

Teething Problems As Hundreds of flight delays hit Heathrow

Tuesday, March 31st, 2015

Hundreds of flights were delayed at Heathrow two days after a new system went live to ‘cut delays caused by strong winds’. The delays affected 287 flights taking off from Heathrow on Sunday and 288 flights arriving at the London airport, according the flight data website Flight Aware.
The new system, Time Based Separation (TBS), went live on Friday and was described as a ‘world first’.

welcome to heathrow

Hopefully this turbulent weather will soon settle down. The MET Office website is currently indicating the winds will have eased by mid-week so fingers crossed all of you flying out from Heathrow for an Easter break will not experience delays. It never hurts however to make sure you are prepared for a flight delay, especially if travelling with young children. What will keep them entertained (a good old fashioned game of eye-spy and a go on my smart phone games normally gets me out of jail!), what about meal-times? – a hungry child is rarely fun to travel with so it’s best to ensure you always have snacks/ sweeties to hand (and that goes for keeping my husband happy too!). Make sure you don’t pack anything too critical in the hold luggage in case (excuse the pun) it gets lost or delayed etc. (For example your child’s favourite teddy).
An easy quick win to get your trip off to a good start is to park your car at the airport with minimum hassle and time. Meet & Greet parking at Heathrow is the first choice on this front. The result is that you can beat the queues and hopefully means that your party gets seats together if you haven’t pre-booked.
With meet and greet Heathrow parking you are met outside the terminal by a VIP driver who then takes your car away to be securely parked in the off-site car-park which has Park Mark accreditation. On date of return, providing you follow the simple instructions in the booking paperwork, your car will be brought to you outside the terminal ready to drive home. 7 days VIP Budget Meet & Greet Heathrow parking starts from just £47.95.

FYI: More About The Heathrow Delays:
A spokesman for Heathrow Airport said: “There were delays at Heathrow yesterday due to very high winds. “We had no cancellations (out of the approximately 1300 scheduled flights) so although we are running at 98% capacity the airport coped well with the weather disruption.”Of course we are sorry for those passengers who were delayed yesterday.”

A spokesman for NATS said: “The tool is obviously new so it will take some time for us to be getting the absolute most out of it.
“We are currently in a period of Limited Operational Service to refine our processes and ensure everything is working as expected. We then plan to go fully live on 1 May, although further refinements will probably be made over the course of the year.”

How To Enjoy Flying This Easter With Kids In Tow!

Thursday, March 26th, 2015

The 2015 Easter getaway will start next week, with British Airways alone expecting to see almost 700,000 people travel around the world on its flights in the first five days.

family_reunite_in_airport
The exodus will start on Thursday April 2, as many families flock to the sun to take advantage of the long Easter weekend and the school holidays.
The single busiest day for travel according to British Airways is Monday, April 6, with 142,000 people set to fly with the airline.
If you are travelling with kids in tow, take a look at this video which gives some great insight into how to keep kids of various ages entertained during the flight, which means grown-ups can relax more! It’s lovely to see that good old fashioned Lego and loom bands kept the kids engrossed and happy – so interestingly it’s not all about smart phones and hand-held internet devices.

Meet & greet parking is the most convenient way to park and can be surprising affordable. Parking off-airport and then using buses can be very unpleasant and tiring, especially with kids in tow. Insight : Over 50s Escaping To The Sun More Often!

Wednesday, March 11th, 2015

meet&greetplanesunnybeach

Who said growing older meant doom and gloom? I am 36 and cannot wait to retire so I can travel more again (when my kids have flown the nest!). This article shows how many of the older amongst us are travelling / holidaying more often than ever.
More than half (52%) of people aged over 50 have changed their holiday habits over the past decade, a recent poll for Saga Travel shows. Two-in-three of those have changed how often they take a holiday and over half report a switch in destination. Nearly half have altered their type of holiday and just over a third have changed the time of year they travel. Two-thirds of those reporting a change in the frequency of their holidays travel more often than they did 10 years ago, while 27% travel less frequently. Of the 67% who said they travel more frequently, 50% travel three or more times per year, compared to a quarter of respondents who now travel less.
The most popular holiday among older respondents is a cruise – 33% of 80-89 year olds, according to the study. Almost a third only travel on touring holidays to explore their chosen destination, against 15% who want to relax in a resort. Only 9% of the 10,015 respondents polled last month said they only travelled on holidays with their family, children and grandchildren. For those who have changed where they go, a third (34%) now travel to more exotic destinations than they did 10 years ago – highest among 50–59 year olds.
Almost a quarter now travel to destinations that avoid long haul flights and 16% only travel to destinations in the UK. More than half (53%) of those who take holidays at a different time of the year say they avoid travelling during school holidays. Almost a fifth travel at times when there are less likely to be other people abroad.

Meet & greet parking is the most convenient way to park and is especially perfect for the less able bodied who cannot cope with an arduous transfer via bus and need to minimise walking. VIP Destination Travel Tips: Krabi, Thailand

Thursday, February 26th, 2015

We take care of the airport parking for thousands of customers every year who are jetting off all around the world from Heathrow airport. Some of our lovely customers are kind enough to share their favourite destinations and top tips to help inspire others. So if you haven’t already booked your main 2015/16 holiday, here’s some free inspiration from VIP’s Mrs Peasley:

As a bargain hunter I like to feel like I am getting ‘max bang for my buck’. Krabi in Thailand was a winner for me here. My husband and I were able to venture from our luxury hotel into town ‘Ao Nang’ via ‘the monkey walk’ or by boat (both good fun). Transport in town (via taxi or ‘tuk tuk’) and eating out was so cheap. The seafood was amazing and the people were so friendly! Talk about beautiful scenery. The beaches were some of the best I have ever seen with perfect crystal blue sea to cool off in. If you have watched the film ‘The Beach’ you can actually visit the location where it was filmed- Phi Phi Island, which is definitely worth adding to your ‘itinerary.’ We went in the month of April, had perfect weather and stayed in the reasonably priced but very luxurious Centara Grand Beach Resort, http://www.centarahotelsresorts.com/centaragrand/ckbr/

Top Tips For Winter Car Care

Thursday, February 19th, 2015

cold car
One of the worst times for things to go wrong when you are at the wheel is when you are driving to catch a flight! We are in the business of parking cars professionally and efficiently- whatever the weather. It’s our jobs to ensure a nice warm car is waiting for our customers when they return to Heathrow and exit the terminal after their flight- so we know the extra precautions needed when handling cars during winter to minimize disruption/ delay. A few simple checks can help ensure you don’t get caught out in the cold this winter. We’ve gathered some useful tips for you:

Check your car:
• Antifreeze – check coolant level regularly and, if required, top-up with a mixture of the correct type of antifreeze. Your garage should check concentration to ensure adequate cold temperature protection.
• Battery – the most common cause of winter breakdowns. A battery more than five years old may struggle in the cold – get it checked and replaced if necessary to avoid the inconvenience of an unplanned failure.
• Fuel – keep at least a quarter of a tank in case of unexpected delay.
• Lights – check and clean all lights regularly to make sure you can see and be seen clearly. Carry spare bulbs.
• Tyres – should have at least 3mm of tread for winter motoring. Consider winter tyres for improved safety. Check pressures at least every fortnight.
• Windscreen – reduce dazzle from the low sun by keeping the screen clean inside and out. Now is a good time to renew worn wiper blades.
• Screen wash – use a 50% mix of a good quality screen wash to reduce the chance of freezing in frosty weather.
• Locks and door seals – stop doors freezing shut with a thin coat of polish or Vaseline on rubber door seals. A squirt of water dispersant (WD-40) in locks will help stop them freezing.

Winter emergency kit:
• Blanket, rug or sleeping bag
• Shovel
• Bits of carpet or thick cardboard to place under driven wheels to help regain traction on ice or snow
• Salt, sand or cat litter – to help clear snow and ice
• Reflective jacket(s)
• Ice scraper and de-icer
• Torch and batteries
• Tow rope
• Snow chains (if you live in a remote or rural area)
• Battery jump leads
• Bottled water
• Snacks – chocolate or cereal bars
• Extra screen wash

Year-round essentials
• Fully-charged mobile phone and in-car charger
• Sunglasses – to deal with glare from the sun or snow
• Personal medication
• Warning triangle
• Spare bulbs
• First aid kit
• Road atlas – in case of diversions
• Sat-nav or printed route for unfamiliar journeys
• Breakdown membership card
